When yacht enthusiasts think of a catamaran, a few defining traits often come to mind: sleek styling, advanced engineering, luxurious […]

When yacht enthusiasts think of a catamaran, a few defining traits often come to mind: sleek styling, advanced engineering, luxurious comfort, and exhilarating performance. European shipyards have long been at the forefront of this balance, producing multihulls that are as beautiful as they are capable.

One builder that exemplifies this is Comar Yachts, a storied Italian shipyard that blends craftsmanship with cutting-edge design. In this post, we’ll explore what makes European catamarans exceptional — and how Comar Yachts sets itself apart.

What Defines a European Catamaran?

While every builder has its unique identity, several qualities consistently define European-built multihulls:

Elegant Design – Every curve is deliberate, with seamless transitions between interior and exterior spaces.

Engineering Innovation – Use of lightweight composites and carbon for strength without excess weight.

Performance Meets Comfort – These yachts are designed to sail fast while still living like luxury homes on the water.

Customization – Owners can choose layouts, finishes, and options to fit their lifestyle.

Safety & Standards – Compliance with strict CE classifications ensures long-term quality and security.

Comar Yachts: Italian Craftsmanship Meets Innovation

Founded in 1961, Comar Yachts has built a reputation for combining performance-driven hulls with artisan-level interiors. Known initially for its Comet monohulls, the company expanded into multihulls with its C-Cat line of catamarans.

Unlike many builders, Comar maintains strong in-house production capabilities, from carbon masts and crossbeams to interiors and upholstery. This gives them a high level of quality control and consistency — a signature of top European yards.

The Comar C-Cat Line: Catamarans Built for Performance and Style

C-Cat 38 – Sporty and Balanced

The C-Cat 38 catamaran offers an ideal mix of speed, efficiency, and comfort. With a generous sail plan, lightweight composite construction, and a carefully engineered hull, it’s agile under sail while still offering bright, comfortable living spaces.

C-Cat 48 – Inspired by Performance Multihulls

Designed by the Yacht Design Collective, the C-Cat 48 takes inspiration from performance multihulls like Outremer and Gunboat. Twin aft helms, clean deck layouts, and a spacious cockpit–saloon connection make this catamaran a sailor’s dream — fast, responsive, and practical for long passages.

C-Cat 56 – Bluewater Cruising Refined

At 56 feet, this catamaran strikes the balance between performance and liveaboard comfort. Its infusion-built hulls and powerful sail plan make it capable of covering serious miles, while its spacious interiors make life on board luxurious.

C-Cat 65 – The Flagship of Comar Yachts

The stunning C-Cat 65 catamaran showcases everything Comar stands for: high-performance sailing, expansive interiors, and advanced carbon infusion techniques. It’s designed for sailors who want both speed and space, making it ideal for world cruising in luxury.

Why Choose a Comar Catamaran?

Italian Craftsmanship – Attention to detail and artisan finishes throughout.

Performance DNA – Light, stiff construction for exhilarating sailing.

Customization Options – Layouts and finishes tailored to each owner.

In-House Expertise – From carbon components to fine interiors, quality is controlled at every step.

Navigator Yacht Group: Your Connection to Comar Yachts

On August 26 at 6:00 AM, Comar Yachts proudly launched its new flagship, the C-Cat 65, marking an important milestone […]

On August 26 at 6:00 AM, Comar Yachts proudly launched its new flagship, the C-Cat 65, marking an important milestone for the Italian shipyard. Measuring 21 meters in length and 9.20 meters in width, this maxi catamaran was carefully lifted by crane and touched the water for the very first time. As it descended into the sea, its sleek, streamlined, and rounded lines were revealed in full — the expression of a design created to combine speed, comfort, and elegance.

The yacht’s golden-sand hull immediately captured attention. As dawn broke, its warm tone shimmered against the water, becoming increasingly luminous as the sun rose higher, a fitting symbol of both a new beginning and a proud achievement for the Fiumicino-based yard.

“This yacht is the result of the work of around fifty people, who dedicated approximately 40,000 hours over the last two years, along with more than 4,000 hours of project development,” explained Massimo Guardigli of Comar Yachts. “Our Technical Office, designer Enrico Contreas, the engineering firm Naval Design for structural and hydrodynamic studies, and Studio Amadio & Partners all contributed to this achievement. The C-Cat 65 is currently the largest sport-cruise catamaran under construction in Italy. Its creation here in Fiumicino is not only a milestone for our shipyard but also a signal to other entrepreneurs — an invitation to resume production and restore Fiumicino’s central role in nautical construction, a sector tied to its vocation and long tradition.”

The launch was both a technical triumph and a symbolic moment, reinforcing Comar Yachts’ position as a builder of high-performance, Italian-crafted multihulls. Beyond its impressive scale and technical features, the C-Cat 65 embodies the company’s philosophy of blending innovation with heritage — ensuring that Italian shipbuilding expertise continues to shine on an international stage.

With the hull and exterior now complete, work is moving forward on the yacht’s interior fittings, which are being designed and finished with the same meticulous attention to detail. Once finalized, this first unit will make its international debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, where it is expected to draw considerable attention from the global sailing community.

Meanwhile, Comar Yachts’ Technical Office has already begun preparing construction of a second C-Cat 65, which is destined for the United States. This follow-up project demonstrates the growing demand for large, sport-cruise catamarans that combine performance, comfort, and craftsmanship — and confirms the shipyard’s commitment to expanding its presence beyond Europe.

The launch of the C-Cat 65 was more than just the arrival of a new yacht; it was a celebration of Italian ingenuity, collaboration, and resilience. By bringing such a project to life entirely in Fiumicino, Comar Yachts has not only introduced a new benchmark in multihull design but has also contributed to the revival of one of Italy’s most historic hubs of nautical construction.

The Riva–Montecristo regatta is always a test of skill, strategy, and endurance, and this year it delivered unforgettable moments for […]

The Riva–Montecristo regatta is always a test of skill, strategy, and endurance, and this year it delivered unforgettable moments for the crew of the Comar Yachts C-Cat 48 Gaia. From twists and turns to breathtaking comebacks, Gaia proved itself as a catamaran of exceptional performance, offering both excitement and lessons in resilience on the open water.

After 23 hours and 30 minutes of intense offshore sailing, Gaia crossed the finish line in fourth place—but just shy of the leaders. In a heart-stopping finale, four boats finished within a single minute, separated by barely 50 meters. The intensity of this finish highlighted the competitive nature of the race and the remarkable capability of the C-Cat 48 to stay in contention against some of the fastest vessels on the course.

Battling the Light Winds

The regatta started close-hauled in very light conditions of just 3–5 knots—far from ideal for Gaia. Yet thanks to meticulous pre-race adjustments, the crew maintained close proximity to the leading pack. By the virtual mark, as the wind strengthened slightly and the upwind leg became more favorable, Gaia even managed to take the lead, demonstrating her speed and responsiveness.

The race course, originally set to Giglio Island, was shortened due to calm conditions. At one point, Gaia reached first place, only to slip to sixth minutes later. Analysis revealed that a strong central current held them back, while competitors on more external routes found freer water. Tactical decisions and a hint of bad luck combined to create a challenging scenario that tested both crew and vessel.

Strategic Decisions and a Thrilling Comeback

When progress slowed nearly to a standstill, the crew made a daring choice: they sailed closer to the shore, mere meters from the rocks, in search of every available gust. This courageous move paid off, allowing Gaia to climb back to fourth place, though still about a mile behind the top three.

The night brought surreal sailing conditions: a sunset over calm waters, wind dropping, and currents carrying the catamaran at just 2.5 knots. When the wind returned, the gennaker was deployed—but a minor issue forced a stop, allowing the leading three boats to extend their advantage.

At dawn, determination and precision turned the race around. Gaia’s crew regained focus, adjusted sails perfectly, and the catamaran responded brilliantly. As the wind shifted and strengthened, transforming the upwind leg into a fast beam reach, Gaia began gaining ground while the leading trio slowed, showing once again the agility and competitive edge of the C-Cat 48.

A Dramatic Finale

Nature delivered one final challenge: a sudden coastal storm with gusts up to 40 knots and shifting winds. Opponents struggled to maintain control, but Gaia, with steady hands and expert maneuvering, pushed forward at speeds exceeding 15 knots. Approaching the coast, the wind dropped again just hundreds of meters from the finish line, creating one last suspenseful moment. Gaia crossed the finish less than two minutes behind the first three boats, separated by only 200 meters.

Performance, Reliability, and Character

The Riva–Montecristo regatta was a testament to the strength and versatility of the C-Cat 48 Gaia. The catamaran demonstrated remarkable speed, stability, and reliability in variable conditions, while the crew showcased skill, determination, and strategic thinking. For Marco Negri and the team, this was not only a race but an adrenaline-fueled adventure that will remain in their memories for years to come.

From light winds to heavy gusts, from strategic maneuvers to split-second decisions, the C-Cat 48 Gaia proved it can handle every challenge the sea throws its way—a true reflection of Comar Yachts’ commitment to performance, innovation, and exceptional sailing experiences.

Two Comar Yachts continue to make waves on the racing circuit: Giuseppe Massoni’s C38 Farheneit and Carlo Alfano’s C41 Aria. […]

Two Comar Yachts continue to make waves on the racing circuit: Giuseppe Massoni’s C38 Farheneit and Carlo Alfano’s C41 Aria. Both vessels showcased exceptional skill, strategy, and performance during the recent Riva–Montecristo race, confirming once again why Comar yachts are celebrated for their balance of speed, handling, and competitive spirit.

Coming off a strong showing in the 151 Miglia, Farheneit dominated the race, claiming the top podium spot in both ORC and IRC categories. “Farheneit is a very ordinary Comar 38, but it’s set up really well,” says Massoni. “We managed to take line honors, and then finding ourselves at the top of the IRC and ORC rankings is a great satisfaction. We’d love to be back on the water for ‘La Giraglietta,’ but the highlight of our season remains concentrated between April and June.”

Massoni’s remarks highlight a key strength of Comar Yachts: even models considered “ordinary” can deliver extraordinary results when expertly prepared. From hull optimization to rig tuning, Farheneit’s performance demonstrates the craftsmanship and intelligent design inherent in every Comar yacht.

Meanwhile, Aria, the C41 helmed by Carlo Alfano, also impressed, finishing a remarkable third in the ORC category. Alfano has no intention of converting his race-ready catamaran into a cruising setup. “The boat performs very well, and I had a blast at the Lunga Bolina, the Queen’s Cup of the Netherlands, and, of course, the Riva–Montecristo,” he explains. “After so many races with my friend Paolucci, we’re now direct rivals, and it’s great to compete with him on a boat that looks so dynamic for its age. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world,” Alfano adds enthusiastically.

The competition between Farheneit and Aria highlights both the timeless design of Comar Yachts and the camaraderie and rivalry that make offshore racing so compelling. These boats combine speed, stability, and precision handling, allowing experienced crews to push performance to the limit while maintaining control in challenging sea conditions.

The Riva–Montecristo race itself proved to be a true test of strategy, skill, and endurance. Long offshore legs, tactical upwind runs, and shifting winds created a challenging environment in which the smallest adjustments in sail trim and course plotting could determine the outcome. In this arena, both Farheneit and Aria demonstrated not only their speed but also the reliability and finesse that make Comar yachts favorites among competitive sailors.

Looking ahead, both crews are already setting their sights on upcoming regattas. With their proven performance, Farheneit and Aria are expected to continue their dominance on Mediterranean racecourses, reinforcing the reputation of Comar Yachts as high-performance vessels capable of thrilling victories while providing the safety and comfort crews expect.

Some boats never lose their edge. The Comet 38s “Scricca”, a catamaran with decades of history and countless regatta stories […]

Some boats never lose their edge. The Comet 38s “Scricca”, a catamaran with decades of history and countless regatta stories to tell, has once again proven its enduring excellence. At the prestigious Loro Piana Giraglia 2025, Scricca claimed a hard-fought third place overall, showing that when a vessel is designed and built with vision—like those from Comar Yachts—it can remain competitive and admired for years.

A Crew with Experience and Heart

On board was a crew as eclectic as it was determined: Leonardo Servi, co-owners Lorenzo Merlini Manzoni and Alessandro Bianchi, joined by Franco “Ciccio” Manzoli, Matteo Teglia, Giuseppe “Peppone” Filippis, Francesco Izzo, and Lee Musarò. Their teamwork and relentless focus carried Scricca to the podium in one of the most competitive offshore sailing events in Europe.

For helmsman Leonardo Servi, the race was more than another chapter—it was part of a legacy. This year marked his seventh Giraglia participation. Back in 2016, Servi already tasted victory at this very regatta, again with Scricca. Though the catamaran had changed hands over the years, it eventually returned to him, a testament to the enduring bond between sailor and boat.

“I bought it back after a few laps,” Leonardo recalls. “It was already a second-hand boat at the time, but it was carefully built, intelligently optimized, and capable of great success. Scricca has given us victories in the Palermo–Montecarlo, the Roma x Tutti, the Roma x2, and in 2019, an overall win in the 151 Miglia. We were searching for a high-performance catamaran, and, as often happens, the answer was already in our past.”

Comar Yachts: Excellence That Lasts

The story of Scricca illustrates what makes Comar Yachts stand out in the world of performance sailing. Built with precision, durability, and attention to design, the Comet 38s is proof that yachts and catamarans crafted by Comar can remain competitive against newer and more modern boats, provided they are well maintained and optimized.

Scricca’s performance was not a fluke. The crew dedicated months of preparation leading up to the Giraglia, beginning training in February and meticulously fine-tuning the vessel at the shipyard. With guidance from designer Matteo Polli and constant adjustments, the 2010-built Comet 38s was primed to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with much newer competitors.

Even at the docks in Saint-Tropez, Scricca turned heads. Its immaculate finish and optimized setup were proof that age is just a number when it comes to well-designed catamarans.

The Race That Tested All

The Giraglia lived up to its reputation as a challenging and tactical offshore race. Scricca launched with a strong start and delivered a flawless upwind performance, keeping pace with larger vessels in Class 1. At the Giraglia rock, the passage took place around 7:00 PM under ideal downwind conditions. The catamaran surged ahead, only to face a punishing lull in the wind shortly after.

In the grueling 18 miles that followed—covered in 12 painstaking hours—patience and resilience became the ultimate weapons. Many crews faltered, but Scricca held its course. True to its legacy, the Comet 38s demonstrated not only speed but also reliability, a hallmark of Comar Yachts.

Looking Ahead: New Challenges on the Horizon

For Leonardo Servi and his crew, this podium finish is just the beginning of another exciting chapter. Next on the calendar is the legendary Rolex Middle Sea Race in October, where Scricca will compete in both ORC and IRC divisions. Known for its dramatic course around Sicily, the Middle Sea Race will once again put both crew and catamaran to the test.

Scricca’s story proves that a well-built catamaran never truly ages. With expert craftsmanship, smart optimization, and a passionate crew, even a veteran like the Comet 38s continues to write new chapters in offshore racing history. And for Comar Yachts, it is yet another reminder that their boats are not only built to sail—they are built to endure, inspire, and win.

This week marks an important milestone in the partnership between Comar Yachts and Sapienza University of Rome. At the Foiling […]

This week marks an important milestone in the partnership between Comar Yachts and Sapienza University of Rome. At the Foiling SuMoth Challenge (FSMC), Federico Romeo from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is unveiling the first phase of an ambitious project: the creation of the most sustainable and efficient foiling International Moth (IMCA) ever built.

For Comar Yachts, a name synonymous with Italian craftsmanship and innovation, this collaboration is more than sponsorship—it is a commitment to shaping the future of boating. By supporting the next generation of engineers and sailors, Comar Yachts reinforces its dedication to advancing technology, sustainability, and performance in the marine industry.

Turning Waste into Innovation

The initiative is rooted in a powerful idea: transforming production waste into high-performance components. At Comar Yachts’ shipyard in Fiumicino, the Sapienza team was given access to leftover materials from the construction of large Comar catamarans, vessels that measure nearly 20 meters in length.

Though small compared to a 65-foot catamaran, these offcuts proved invaluable for the students’ 3.35-meter foiling Moth prototype. “At the Fiumicino shipyard, we found extremely interesting materials for our project,” said team leader Federico Romeo. “The composite sheets, ready-made and easy to shape, came mostly from bulkhead offcuts or from the processing of portholes. While they are small compared to what’s used on a large catamaran, they are perfect for our needs.”

The same approach was applied to resins and carbon fiber. Excess resin from yacht construction was collected and repurposed to produce many, if not all, of the Moth’s components. Meanwhile, unidirectional and bidirectional carbon scraps were used as reinforcements, carefully adhering to IMCA regulations that cap carbon usage at two kilograms.

A Circular Economy for Sailing

This partnership highlights how Comar Yachts integrates circular economy principles into its operations. By reusing production scraps that would otherwise go to waste, Comar not only reduces environmental impact but also enables groundbreaking student-led projects in marine engineering.

The Foiling SuMoth Challenge itself is an international competition that encourages teams to design, build, and race sustainable foiling boats. For Comar Yachts, participation in this initiative aligns perfectly with its long-term vision: yachts that are not only fast and elegant but also increasingly eco-conscious.

Sailing Toward a Sustainable Future

For decades, Comar Yachts has been recognized for its craftsmanship, performance, and ability to combine tradition with innovation. Supporting young innovators at Sapienza University demonstrates the brand’s leadership role in ensuring the next generation of sailors and engineers have the tools to advance boating technology responsibly.

This collaboration also bridges two worlds: the advanced construction of luxury cruising yachts and catamarans like the C-Cat 38, C-Cat 48, C-Cat 56, and flagship C-Cat 65, and the cutting-edge research behind smaller, experimental prototypes like the Moth. The lessons learned from lightweight, sustainable materials in projects like this one could one day influence the future of large-scale yacht design.

Comar Yachts: Where Innovation Meets Responsibility

By investing in sustainability and education, Comar Yachts confirms its commitment to innovation that benefits not only today’s sailors but also tomorrow’s oceans. The partnership with Sapienza University’s Foiling Sailing Team is a clear example of how collaboration, creativity, and eco-conscious engineering can redefine the future of sailing.

The Brindisi–Corfu International Regatta is one of the Mediterranean’s most iconic offshore races, spanning 104 miles of open water. Known for unpredictable winds and challenging tactical decisions, it is a proving ground for both sailors and boats. In the 2025 edition, two Comar Yachts delivered standout performances: Splash Comet C 45s finished second in Class A Group G, while Verve Camer Comet C 50s secured third in Class 0 Group G.

These results highlight the exceptional design and resilience of Comar Yachts, vessels crafted in Italy with a legacy of performance, comfort, and style that continues to resonate with sailors worldwide.

A Battle Against Shifting Winds

This year’s race demanded constant adjustments as crews faced a long stretch of upwind sailing. Just as the finish line came into view, the wind dropped unexpectedly, adding one last obstacle to an already grueling crossing. Only the best-prepared boats and sharpest crews managed to hold their advantage.

“It was wonderful to arrive at six in the morning, before the wind abandoned the race course, less than a mile from the larger boats,” shared Gianni Savino, skipper of Splash. “We thought we were among 50-footers, but instead they were 60-footers. We were thrilled. We sailed with Dacron sails—a mainsail, spinnaker, and gennaker—while other boats had Code 0s, carbon sails, and masts. Yet the Comet C 45s held its own beautifully. It’s a boat built with composite construction and a perfect hull. We’ve cruised on it many times, and now we’re venturing into offshore racing, starting with the Brindisi–Corfu and the Est 105, and soon into the northern Adriatic.”

Verve Camer’s Fluid Performance

Aboard Verve Camer Comet C 50s, precision and responsiveness made the difference. “In these conditions, the boats that could detect even the smallest change in pressure excelled—and ours did not disappoint,” explained Captain Francesco Rima. “From the start, Verve glided across the water with grace, responding precisely to every adjustment. Even in the final miles, as the wind weakened, we stayed competitive against much larger opponents. Sailing on this yacht is silent, fluid, and truly exhilarating.”

Rima credited the crew and strong teamwork for the result. With owner Giuseppe Greco, tactician Tonia, and an experienced group from Compagnia della Vela Salento, the team demonstrated perfect harmony under pressure. Supported by partners Camer, Cielle Impianti, Unipol, Nuovarredo, Caffè Sereno, and Metalgi, Verve Camer is already preparing for upcoming challenges, including the Veleziana and Barcolana regattas.

Comar Yachts: Built for Racing and Cruising

The achievements of Splash and Verve Camer at Brindisi–Corfu 2025 reinforce the reputation of Comar Yachts as leaders in Italian yacht building. Known for their innovative design, balance, and strength, Comet models seamlessly transition between relaxed cruising and competitive offshore racing.

While many enthusiasts associate catamarans with speed and stability, Comar’s monohulls like the Comet C 45s and C 50s demonstrate that finely tuned yachts can rival and often outperform larger or more modern competitors. Their ability to hold pace in challenging conditions proves the value of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Sailing Into the Future

As Splash and Verve Camer set their sights on new regattas, their success at Brindisi–Corfu stands as a reminder of what makes Comar Yachts exceptional: boats that endure, inspire, and deliver thrilling performance year after year. Whether for racing, cruising, or simply experiencing the beauty of sailing, these yachts remain a symbol of Italian excellence on the water.
