Catana 471
LA VIDA GYPSEA (lvg)
At the end of the last century Catana introduced the first of their second generation models which significantly raised the bar of performance cruising blue-water catamarans due to their innovative sail management system and luxurious wood interiors while still maintaining Catana’s signature hull shape consisting of asymmetrical hulls for added stability at the waterline. Tulip-shaped bows to resist large waves, and bulbous bow stems below the waterline. Today these same attributes has earned Catana a cult following for sailors looking for an affordable blue-water performance catamaran.
I know this Catana 471 very well having sold this Catana 471 to her original Peruvian owner based in Lima (x-SALVAJE) and sold her to her current owner (4th owner) when LA VIDA GYPSEA was based in Puerta Vallarta, MX in 2021. Current owner explored the Pacific coast down to Panama and for the past couple of years has been enjoying the Eastern Caribbean.
The interior layout of LA VIDA GYPSEA is a very unique PRESTIGE layout with the guest bathroom having a separate shower stall and a custom built-in backrest/bar for the forward facing settee.

S/V LA VIDA GYPSEA INVENTORY
| DESIGN: |
Classic Lock Crowther influenced hull shape with asymmetrical hulls for added stability, tulip shaped bow stems for increased wave resistance, daggerboards for less leeway beating to weather as well as safety in large beam seas, and dual aft helm stations for excellent visibility and improved rudder feedback. Innovative sail management system managed from the safety of the cockpit plus enabling single-handed sailing.
| CONSTRUCTION: |
The two outer hull molds and one inner hull/bridgedeck mold are vacuum bagged using Isophthalic Polyester resin, cored with PVC closed cell foam with unidirectional cloth for outer laminate & Twaron aramid cloth for inner laminate. The separately molded daggerboard trunks are laminated to be considerably stronger than the daggerboards.
The deck/coachroof is a one-piece mold, vacuum-bagged using Isophthalic Polyester resin, cored with Nidacore honeycomb with unidirectional cloth for outer laminate & Twaron aramid cloth for inner laminate, and molded diamond pattern non-skid decks.
The deck to hull joint is bonded by fiberglass creating a strong seamless monolithic structure.
